Welcome to the 2007-2008 Annual Report for the McKinney Education Foundation, reporting on our Fiscal Year from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.  This has been a fast-paced year for MEF, helping to meet the needs of a community with a rapidly growing population of students and an ever increasing number of fine schools.

This year the MEF staff and Board of Trustees partnered with the Center for Non-Profit Management in developing a long-range strategic plan.  This plan has allowed us to ascertain needs and create initiatives which will guide us in fulfilling our mission to inspire students and teachers towards excellence in education.  Our primary goal is to create a community desire to offer scholarship assistance to every McKinney graduate who meets the MEF criteria by cultivating relationships with donors and educators. In order to accomplish this, we have set a development goal of raising our program endowment fund to $15 million dollars and building an operations endowment by 2015.

The MEF Annual Scholarship Awards Event held in May was again a success with more than 200 scholarships totaling $304,000 awarded. In addition, the MEF Advisors located on each of the high school campuses helped secure an additional $6.4 million in scholarships, grants and financial aid for graduates from sources from around the country.

In the fall of 2008, MEF said goodbye and happy retirement to our Executive Director Darrell Slabaugh.  We appreciate his leadership over the last four years.

We would like to thank all of our donors and supporters for helping MEF continue to enhance the quality of education in McKinney through staff grants and by supporting our young graduates with scholarships to pursue their dreams through higher education.
